Oyam became a District on July 1st 2006
after being established by the the Parliament of Uganda. It was part of Apac District. It is
a predominantly rural district which is
occupied by the Lango tribe and covers a
total area of 2,716.2 sq. Kms and has a
population of a total of 366,200 people.

Chairman Okello Engola

Oyam is one of the new Districts that was born in July 2006 but has managed to move at a pace beyond imagination. It is now a model District not only among the new districts but old ones as well.

OYAM District is situated in northern Uganda between longitudes 32 degrees 2 minutes East and 32 degrees 10 minutes East and latitudes 2 degrees North and 2 degrees 7 minutes North. It is bordered by Gulu District in the North, Kiryandongo in the South West, Nwoya in the West, Apac in the South, and Kole in the East.
